Sarawak Polls: Late Adenan Satem's son Azizul in four-way fight for Tanjung Datu

LUNDU: In an effort to continue his father’s legacy in the Tanjung Datu seat, Azizul Annuar Adenan - son of the late fifth Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem - is facing a four-cornered fight in the Sarawak polls.

Azizul, who is contesting as a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate, will be facing Independent candidate Abdul Talip Ba’ee, Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB)’s Jery'in Fauzi and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK)’s Goem Pijar.

The names of the candidates were announced by Tanjung Datu Returning Officer Gustian Durani at 10.40 am at the Lundu Community Hall on Monday (Dec 6).

Azizul, 30, is among the young candidates fielded by GPS in this state election, who have been described as pioneers to the future politics of Sarawak.

In the 11th Sarawak state election, Adenan, representing Barisan Nasional (BN), defended the seat for three consecutive terms.

The widow of Adenan, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, had won the Tanjong Datu seat in a by-election in 2017, replacing Adenan, who died from heart complications on Jan 11, 2017.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Dec 18 as the polling date for the 12th Sarawak State Election. - Bernama
