Sarawak Polls: Candidates arrive at Kuching South City Hall for nomination day

KUCHING: Several hopeful candidates have arrived at the Kuching South City Hall nomination centre ahead of the Sarawak state polls.

The first to arrive is SUPP candidate Milton Foo who came to the centre at 8:06am.

Foo is seeking to contest the Pending seat and is expected to take on DAP’s Violet Yong, who has been the Pending assemblymen for three terms since 2006.

She last won Pending against Foo in 2016 with a 5,012-vote majority.

The next to arrive was PKR Sarawak election director Dominique Ng, who arrived at the Kuching South City Hall nomination centre at 8.10am.

He is the father of Cherishe Ng, a 24-year-old who’s expected to take on PSB’s See Chee How in Batu Lintang.

See has served as the Batu Lintang assemblymen for three terms and he was sacked from PKR last April over his involvement in the "Sheraton Move" which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.

The next to arrive is Datuk Wee Hong Seng of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), who arrived at the nomination centre at 8.21am.

Wong - the former Kuching South Mayor - will be contesting the Batu Lintang seat, which was previously held by See Chee How for three terms.

The next to arrive was Leong Shaow Yung from the unregistered Sarawak 4 Sarawakians, who came to the Kuching South City Hall with his seconder at 8.24am

He will be contesting as a Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sabah candidate

After Leong, the next candidate to arrive was PKR’s 24-year-old Cherishe Ng, at 8.25am.

Two candidates then arrived at about 8.30am, the first being Parti Bumi Kenyalang's 62-year-old Teo Kiang Kim

The engineering consultant will be contesting the Pending seat.

“This is my second time coming out for an election, the first was in Padungan. My party hopes the people of Pending will support us. I know Pending very well as I have lived there for a long time," he said.

The second of the two to arrive at the same nomination centre at about 8.30am was Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

His arrival was followed by that of Violet Yong, who arrived at 8.54am.

“I feel honoured and excited about this," said Yong.
