Cops bust Suria Gang with arrest of six in joint ops led by Bukit Aman

PETALING JAYA: A Bukit Aman-led operation led to the busting of the Suria Gang after police arrested six of its members.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the operation, dubbed Ops Sunset, involved Bukit Aman and Kedah police raiding locations in Kedah and Perak from Sept 24 to Sept 27.

Investigations showed that the nine-man gang was led by a 30-year-old local.

"The organised crime group has been active since early 2024 and has been identified as being involved in 20 property and violent crime cases in Kedah, involving armed gang robberies that resulted in injuries," he said.

All six suspects have been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until Oct 25, while three other group members were currently held at the Sungai Buloh, Pokok Sena, and Sungai Petani prisons for other criminal offences.

"Checks revealed that several of those arrested had previous criminal records involving vehicle theft, housebreaking, drugs, gang robbery and causing grievous hurt using sharp weapons.

"The group's modus operandi involved targeting the homes of foreign nationals, business premises and residential properties identified by the gang leader.

"During the robberies, gang members used dangerous weapons such as knives and machetes and did not hesitate to injure victims to facilitate their criminal activities. Their aggressive and violent actions caused fear and trauma among victims, with several sustaining serious injuries during the attacks," he said.

He added that the stolen items were sold for cash and the proceeds were distributed based on each gang member's involvement.

"The nine members of Gang Suria are scheduled to be charged on Oct 22, at the Sungai Petani Sessions Court in Kedah.

"The police is committed to taking continuous action against any individuals or groups involved in organised criminal activities to ensure the peace, safety and well-being of Malaysian society," he said.
