Sarawak civil servants to receive two-month bonus

KUCHING: The Sarawak government has announced a two-month bonus for state civil servants in appreciation of their hard work and dedication.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said the bonus, involving a total sum of RM144mil, will benefit 19,851 recipients and be paid before the end of the year.

"The Sarawak government has never neglected their sacrifice.

"We are committed to looking after their welfare by building and upgrading government offices and quarters to ensure those serving in remote areas have comfortable work and living conditions," he said in his winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Wednesday (Oct 21).

Abang Johari also announced a special financial assistance of RM700 for 132,347 federal civil servants in Sarawak, including teachers, healthcare workers and security personnel.

This will be paid in the first quarter of next year.

In addition, state civil service pensioners will receive a one-off payment of RM500, amounting to RM5.1mil for 10,141 recipients.

Private media practitioners registered with six media associations in Sarawak will also receive an incentive of RM700.

"The government appreciates the contribution and sacrifice of media practitioners in delivering information and news professionally, positively impacting Sarawak's socioeconomic development," Abang Johari said.
