Sabah authorities inspect premises linked to suspected telecommunications equipment thefts

KOTA KINABALU: Recycling centres and premises selling used items suspected of having links to cable thefts, vandalism and theft of telecommunications station equipment as well as components here were among the focus of an integrated operation on Wednesday (Oct 21).

The Ops Lusuh Khas-Inter conducted in and around the city saw the Sabah Environment Department (DOE) issue six field citations (FC) on six premises with directive notices and recommendation of compounding action given out.

According to Sabah DOE, the action was taken to ensure that those premises abided by the regulations under Environmental Quality Act 1974.

Other than DOE, other agencies involved in this operation included the Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), National Digital Department, the Penampang, Putatan and Tuaran District Councils and Sabah Electricity.

Several telecommunications companies and auxiliary policemen were part of this crack down as well.

The DOE advised all premises to adhere to all regulations and laws under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 or they could face legal actions, and also be taken to court.

The DOE said it would continue its enforcement and monitoring of activities which have the potential to cause pollution.

Those with related information are advised to call the DOE toll free number at 1-800-88-2727 or file a complaint via the JAS e-aduan system.
