KUCHING: Sarawak's investment policy will focus on four priority clusters, including clean energy and petrochemicals, as the state diversifies its industrial base, says Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
The Deputy Premier said the clusters were projected to attract investments worth RM275bil to RM330bil by 2030 and create 254,000 jobs.
He said clean energy industries will leverage renewable energy to develop green manufacturing, while the petrochemicals cluster will expand downstream gas, petrochemical and oleochemical industries, including sustainable aviation fuel and carbon capture activities.
"The other two clusters are advanced industries, covering semiconductors, electronics, medical technology, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, bioindustries, AI data centres and high-value food manufacturing; and tourism and services, focusing on ecotourism, business events, higher education, medical and digital services," he said when winding up the debate related to his International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Wednesday (Oct 21).
The clusters were identified by the recently completed Sarawak investment policy study, which provided a strategic framework to attract high-value investments, diversify the industrial base, strengthen local participation and create skilled employment.
To connect local businesses with investment opportunities, Awang Tengah said his ministry was building commercial linkages through the Sarawak global supply chain and sourcing programme here and engagements in Shanghai, Seoul, London and Munich.
He said efforts to expand market access, build business partnerships and strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses will be intensified next year.
"The emphasis is on practical outcomes: stronger supplier relationships, technology partnerships and access to regional and global supply chains," he added.
