Kuching school attack: Videos, images surface on social media claiming to be that of perpetrator

PETALING JAYA: Images purportedly showing a 16-year-old student involved in an attack that injured a teacher at an international school in Kuching have surfaced on social media.

Some social media users claimed the student livestreamed the attack before the video was deleted.

In the images, the teen is seen looking at himself in a bathroom mirror with a phone strapped to his head.

A CCTV recording of a classroom, which has also gone viral, shows the student entering and approaching the teacher with a sharp object, before she restrains him with the help of another student.

Earlier Wednesday (Oct 21), it was reported that a teacher at a private school here was injured while trying to confiscate a sharp object from a student.

In a safety update to parents, the school said it immediately contacted ambulance services to bring the injured teacher to hospital.

Police have since detained a 16-year-old student in connection with the incident.

Sarawak acting police commissioner Deputy Comm Saifullizan Ishak said police received an emergency call at 8.03am informing them that the student had brought firecrackers to the school and injured a female teacher.

The teacher was reported to have sustained cuts on her hand.

"We are conducting detailed investigations to identify the cause of the incident and obtain evidence," he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957
