SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing is facing off against seven other candidates in the fight for the Dudong seat.
Returning Officer Abdul Razak Aaang Bini announced the eight candidates at about 11.15am on Monday (Dec 6) at the Sibu Rural District Council Library after going through their nomination forms.
They included Paul Ling (DAP), Engga Unchat (PBM), Fadhil Mohd Isa (Indp), Julius Enchana (PBDS Baru) and Josephine Lau (Aspirasi), Wong Hie Ping (PSB), and Jane Lau (PBK).
Abdul Razak said early voting for the constituency is on Dec 14 while polling is on Dec 18.
The constituency has a total of 34,955 voters
Speaking briefly to reporters, Wong said that she would do her best to win the seat.
"If elected I will be fair to all voters in the constituency regardless of their race and religion," said Wong, a businesswoman and former two-term Sibu Municipal Council member.
Fadhil was also unfazed by the tight race for the seat, saying that he would conduct his campaign online due to his lack of financial resources.
"I will run my campaign 100% through social media such as YouTube and Facebook during this pandemic," said Fadhil.
I also want to show that social media is an effective way to reach people," he added.
Fadhil claimed that he has been on the ground since 2018 and had made himself known to the voters in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Tiong left without talking to the press after a photo session of the candidates.
