CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has formed a dedicated group within its cybercrime committee together with the police to investigate the viral sex video implicating a minister and a deputy minister's aide.

Chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak said the investigation was a top priority.

The committee is made up of an executive group, co-headed by Al-Ishsal, and a technical group, which has been investigating the video since receiving a report on Tuesday (June 11).

He said the matter was still under investigation, thus the details were still confidential.

Asked about the fact the video was released in parts, Al-Ishsal said that any member of the public can feel it was planned, not accidental and that it was a shame that technology was being misused to spread such things.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Thursday (June 13) that the ministry would fully cooperate with the police in their investigations, and that it strongly condemned the actions of those who spread the video through social media.

The MCMC has also taken measures to block sites showing the video since Tuesday.

On Wednesday (June 12), Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz admitted that he was the other individual seen in the sex video, which has been making its rounds on social media and WhatsApp.

Haziq is also the senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Haziq has since been suspended by the ministry and was given three days to respond to a show-cause letter.

He claimed the video was taken without his permission on May 11 during the Sandakan by-election in his room at Hotel Four Points.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, in denying his involvement in the video, said people should not resort to cruel and filthy acts of political sabotage.
