Bersatu appoints new task force to restructure divisions, wings

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has formed a special task force to carry out the restructuring of divisions and party wings, following the latest expulsions of party members, including former deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

In a statement on Saturday (Feb 21), party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the task force would be jointly chaired by two vice presidents, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Meanwhile, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali would act as the task force's secretariat.

"State leadership bodies have been instructed to identify the divisions involved (that needed to be restructured).

"The restructuring of these divisions will involve the appointment of acting division heads or the formation of new division committees in accordance with the party’s constitution.

"Party wings affected by resignations will also be reorganised through acting appointments or the formation of new committees," Muhyiddin said.

He also said Bersatu has a pool of successors and active members in every division who are ready to shoulder greater responsibilities to strengthen the party.

"I am confident that many loyal Bersatu members will step forward to take on the mandate. I also wish to emphasise that Bersatu remains committed to the struggle of Perikatan Nasional."

Muhyiddin also said he would attend the Perikatan Nasional Extraordinary Supreme Council Meeting on Sunday (Feb 22) which is reported to be held at PAS's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

"In this regard, I will attend the meeting, which will decide on the appointment of the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional and other matters related to strengthening and empowering the coalition."

In a report quoting Perikatan Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, the meeting would among others discuss the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin as Perikatan chairman and the appointment of his replacement.
