SEREMBAN: Nine police reports were lodged over suspicious packages found at several schools in Negri Sembilan, with preliminary investigations revealing similarities in their appearance and contents.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said five reports were lodged in Nilai, while the remaining four came from Tampin.
He said the packages had reportedly been left or delivered to the school compounds for some time before the school authorities lodged police reports after the named recipients failed to collect them.
“Following the reports, we took the necessary safety precautions and sought assistance from the Bomb Disposal Unit to examine the packages and carry out the necessary safety measures,” he said in a statement issued on Friday (Oct 16).
Examinations found no explosives or hazardous materials in the packages, he added.
"Further checks revealed that they contained wheat flour and plastic plates.
"We are continuing investigations to identify those responsible for sending or leaving the packages at the schools, as well as to determine their motive," he said.
DCP Alzafny advised school management and members of the public not to touch, open or move any suspicious packages if the owner or origin was unknown.
He said any such discovery should be reported to the police immediately for further safety action.
“We take this matter seriously and urge the public not to speculate, as this could cause public concern or interfere with police investigations,” he said.
