Johor Bersatu divisions ‘not dissolved’, says state chief

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Bersatu chief Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal has stressed that no division of Bersatu in Johor has been dissolved to date.

The former Johor menteri besar also denied claims that 11 party divisions had been crippled by a wave of resignations on Wednesday (Fab 18), according to Sinar Harian.

He said any resignation involving division chiefs, their deputies, or committee members would not automatically result in the division's dissolution, as it would be replaced by other individuals who remain loyal and committed to the party’s struggle.

“I am confident that none of the divisions has been disbanded as claimed by some quarters. So far, we have identified the division chiefs, deputies and committee members who have resigned, and they will be replaced,” he said.

“It would be unjust to allow dissolution when each division still has committee members and grassroots members who are loyal to the party’s struggle,” he said when contacted on Thursday (Feb 19).

The Bukit Kepong assemblyman also dismissed allegations of anti-president sentiment in Johor as baseless, stressing that support for Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin remains strong in the state.

“In Johor, we hold positive views of Tan Sri Muhyiddin for his services to the people. Support for his leadership remains intact,” he said.

Commenting on the actions of several division chiefs who claimed to have lost confidence in the central leadership, Dr Sahruddin described it as a malicious attempt to weaken Bersatu and, indirectly, Perikatan Nasional.

On Wednesday, Pontian Bersatu division chief Isa Ab Hamid reportedly said that 11 Johor Bersatu divisions were unable to function after most of their committee members resigned.

He said the unanimous decision meant the affected divisions could no longer convene meetings, which he claimed amounted to their dissolution.

The eleven divisions allegedly involved are Labis, Mersing, Johor Bahru, Pulai, Pontian, Simpang Renggam, Pengerang, Tanjung Piai, Sri Gading, Ledang and Sembrong.
