JOHOR BARU: Johor police issued 139,696 summonses and seized 4,197 vehicles during 2,527 enforcement operations carried out across the state in the first eight months of 2026.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the operations, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) through all 13 district police headquarters, also resulted in 981 arrests involving traffic offences and criminal cases.
He added that operations conducted between Jan 1 and Aug 31 focused on traffic offences identified as high-risk factors contributing to accidents, particularly fatal crashes.
“Among the offences targeted were running red lights, speeding, using mobile phones while driving, overtaking on double lines, using emergency lanes, queue-cutting and offences involving motorcyclists.
“Action was also taken against illegal street racing activities and those driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the prescribed limit,” he said here on Tuesday (Sept 1).
Comm Ab Rahaman said JSPT would continue conducting continuous and targeted enforcement operations based on accident data, identified accident hotspots, high-risk periods and categories of road users found to have a higher risk of being involved in crashes.
He stressed that the enforcement efforts were not solely aimed at issuing summonses, making arrests or seizing vehicles, but were primarily preventive measures to improve compliance with traffic laws and regulations, reduce the risk of accidents and save lives.
“We urge the public and all road users to always comply with traffic laws and regulations, practise courtesy and responsibility, and prioritise safety while on the road.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every road user has an important role to play in ensuring the safety of themselves, their passengers and other road users,” he said, adding that police would continue to intensify strict, continuous and targeted enforcement and prevention efforts to create a safer road environment for everyone.
