Govt to set up Orange Economy Fund to support local artistes

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has decided to establish an Orange Economy Fund to support Malaysia's music industry and local artistes, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said the fund would support national songstress like Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and other local artistes and performers who promote Malaysia on the international stage.

He said Malaysia's ambition to become a developed nation should extend beyond world-class infrastructure to developing its music, arts and culture.

He took note of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's attendance at Siti Nurhaliza's concert, saying the government should support local artists and help them earn a living.

"If the Prime Minister does not support local artists, who else will? If not us, who else? If not now, when?

"If the United States can be proud of Taylor Swift, why can't we be proud of Siti Nurhaliza? " he said during a press conference at the launch of Toilet of The Year Award 2026 here.
