KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department detained 190 foreigners and two local men during a raid on an entertainment centre in Pudu here early on Saturday (Oct 17) following public complaints about disturbances.
Its Enforcement Division director, Datuk Basri Othman, said those detained comprised 99 men and 91 women, aged between 20 and 41.
Of the foreigners, 188 were Indonesians, while the other two were from Bangladesh and India.
The two locals are believed to be the employer and caretaker of the entertainment centre, which is located about 10 metres from a mosque.
"Several rooms in the premises were used for entertainment, with between 50 and 60 people in each room at the time of the raid. Immigration offences detected included overstaying and not possessing valid travel documents," he told reporters after the operation.
All those detained were taken to an immigration depot for investigation under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
During the raid, condoms were found in the rooms, and white powder suspected to be drugs was detected on several plates.
