Five areas in Sarawak record hazardous API readings at 6pm Sept 1


KUALA LUMPUR: Five areas in Sarawak have recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 6pm on Tuesday (Sept 1), with the Serian district police headquarters recording the highest reading of 374.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the four other areas in Sarawak which recorded hazardous API readings were Kuching (346), Sarikei (333), Sibu (323) and Samarahan (318).

Four areas in the state recorded very unhealthy readings, namely and Sri Aman (295), Bintulu (247), Mukah (241) and Samalaju (226).

A total of 11 areas recorded unhealthy API readings, with the monitoring station at the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) recording 191, followed by Miri (186), Kapit (185), Kota Kinabalu (177), Limbang (173) and Labuan (171).

Also recording unhealthy readings were Kimanis (165), Keningau (165), Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (161) and Tawau (154) in Sabah, while Johan Setia in Selangor recorded 157.

Meanwhile, 48 areas nationwide were reported to have moderate readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous. – Bernama
