BUTTERWORTH: A 50-year-old motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured in a crash involving two motorcycles and two cars along the North-South Expressway near Kepala Batas on Tuesday (Sept 1).
The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 1.04pm regarding the crash at KM127.4.
The deceased was identified as Lim Chai Wat.
His pillion rider Tee Seew Yong sustained minor injuries.
The department said the other motorcyclist, Kan Chee Hong, suffered serious injuries after being thrown down an embankment.
All three victims were 50 years old, it added.
The two cars involved were driven by Mohamad Zubir Mohd Noor, 47, and Ang Kong Wei, 44, who were both unhurt.
Kepala Batas fire station personnel arrived at the scene at 1.14pm.
Firefighters rescued Kan from the embankment and brought him to a safe location with assistance from the Sungai Puyu Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The department said Lim was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel.
The victim's body was handed over to the police, while the injured were taken to hospital by Health Ministry ambulances.
The operation, involving six firefighters and one light fire rescue tender vehicle, ended at 3.05pm.
Police, the Health Ministry and PLUS also assisted at the scene, the department added.
