KOTA KINABALU: Police have crippled drug trafficking operations in Penampang and Papar, seizing 51.62kg of syabu worth RM2.58mil.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said six suspects – four men and two women – were arrested during the operations on Aug 19 and 25.
He said in the first operation in Papar, a 37‑year‑old foreign man was arrested at a house in Skim Penempatan Kinarut in Papar at 9.40am on Aug 19.
The suspect attempted to flee but was caught, and police found 12 transparent plastic packets containing 603.9g of syabu.
Comm Jauteh said that in a follow-up raid at 12.05pm the same day, they arrested two women, one of whom was carrying 1.02kg of syabu as she got out of a vehicle.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another man, believed to be a drug supplier, at a mall in Putatan.
"In total, 1.624kg of syabu worth RM81,200 was seized in Papar, enough to supply about 2,914 addicts for a single use.
"All four suspects have been remanded until Wednesday (Sept 2). They tested negative for drugs and had no prior records," he added.
In a separate operation in Penampang at 4.20pm on Aug 25, police arrested two local men aged 45 and 46.
"Our officers observed suspicious activity outside a premises at Jalan Bundusan, Beverly Hills Plaza. One suspect was seen transferring plastic packages between vehicles.
"Checks revealed 28 packets of syabu weighing 28kg in one vehicle, and 22 more packets weighing 22kg in the second vehicle," he said, adding that the total 50kg seized was worth RM2.5mil.
He said both suspects tested negative for drugs but one has two drug-related offences on his record while the other has one.
They were also remanded until Wednesday.
