KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS has a list of potential candidates to field in the upcoming Melaka state election, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said preparations for the election were under way, while the selection of candidates would be made according to party procedures and decisions approved by the syura council, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
He said PAS had always adopted an open approach and sought to continue close cooperation, including with other coalitions with which it had worked previously, including in the Melaka state election.
“We are working to continue it. And as preliminary information, we accept the fact that Melaka is led by Barisan Nasional … We are in the government,” he told a press conference after launching the Terengganu International Summit 2026, held in conjunction with the third anniversary of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, at the state stadium here on Friday (Oct 16).
On Perikatan Nasional’s preparations for the 16th general election, particularly the use of the coalition’s logo as a common symbol, he said it depended on the outcome of legal and court processes.
However, he said PAS remained free to use its own symbol, the moon logo, should it face any constraints.
“If it cannot be used, we will use the moon logo,” he said.
Responding to issues involving challenges with the Registrar of Societies and the campaign period, the Marang MP said they were not major problems as the PAS and Perikatan brands were already widely recognised. He added that the party was relying on support from young and new voters.
“Everyone already knows us. There is no problem; everyone knows PAS, everyone knows Perikatan. There is no problem, especially as we depend on young voters and new voters,” he told Sinar Harian.
Meanwhile, when asked about talk over the possible vacancy of the Merlimau state seat, Abdul Hadi said the matter had yet to be officially decided by the party leadership.
