Viral sex video can't be an inside job, says Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Christina Liew believes that someone is setting up party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali by linking him to a gay sex video spread via social media, but is adamant that it is not an "inside job".

It could not be from anyone inside the party because Azmin is respected as the party deputy president and a federal minister.

"No, I don't believe any inside (job)," she said when asked to comment whether any party member might be behind the series of videos that emerged earlier this week.

"Azmin is our deputy president. We have a lot of respect for him – under his leadership PKR is moving and he is a full-fledged federal minister.

"But I personally believe it is a set up," she told a press conference Thursday (June 13) on the launch of this year's Sabah Fest.

However, she said that she did want to speculate as advised by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and instead allow for police to investigate the matter.

"Personally you ask me, I don't believe it (the video). With technology having advanced so much, people can do anything.

"Since police are investigating, we should not viral it (the video). I feel a person should not be accused of being guilty until it is proven.

"So I advise PKR members not to panic and let the police do their job," she said.

The sex video was allegedly recorded at a room at the Four Points Hotel in Sandakan between 1am and 2am on May 11.

Azmin, the Economic Affairs Minister who was in Sandakan between May 10 and 11 to campaign for DAP's candidate Vivian Wong for the Sandakan by-election, has denied the claims and described it as a "nefarious plot" to ruin his reputation and political career.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said that the investigation was being carried out by Bukit Aman.
