QuickCheck: Was an ex-cop arrested in KL for wearing a police uniform to carry out criminal activities?

CITY folk are used to some unusual sights, but heads turned in the federal capital last week when a uniformed "policeman" was led away in handcuffs by other policemen.

It is said the suspect was actually a former policeman who misused the uniform to pass off as an active member of the force.

Did this really happen in Kuala Lumpur as claimed in a viral video?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a Facebook post, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) said the suspect was arrested by a mobile patrol vehicle team from Sentul during its rounds near the Duta toll plaza on Friday (March 8).

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the suspect had been dismissed from the force earlier.

He said the man, in his 40s, was arrested to help with investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonation of a public servant.

According to the title of the post, the suspect was also believed to have made an extortion bid while wearing the uniform.
