IN trying times such as today, the services of healthcare personnel, including housemen, are in need at medical institutions nationwide.
However, it was recently claimed in a local news portal that no housemen were deployed in Taiping Hospital.
It said this forced medical officers to take on the housemen's duties in addition to their clinical responsibilities. But is it true?

The Perak state government has denied the claim, saying that it's "completely untrue", according to a Bernama report.
State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman Datuk A. Sivanesan said there are currently 93 housemen at Malaysia's oldest hospital.
"To say that there are no housemen at all placed at this hospital is completely untrue," he said at a press conference after visiting Taiping Hospital on Friday (Sept 11).
However, he admitted that there are shortages taking place at the hospital and assured the public that measures are taking place to address the issues.
"We acknowledge that several other shortages are being addressed and will be resolved by the hospital management," he said.
