QuickCheck: Were four teens arrested in Kota Samarahan for beating up a Form 1 student?


A VIRAL video making the rounds on social media shows four youths ganging up to attack another teen who ends up on the ground.

Is it true that the incident happened in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, and involved secondary school students?

Kota Samarahan OCPD Deputy Supt Brodie Barangka confirmed the incident, saying that four teens had been arrested after the victim lodged a police report at 5.08pm on Monday (June 19).

"All the suspects were brought to the Kota Samarahan police headquarters to assist in investigations.

"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and if found guilty, the suspects face imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both," DSP Brodie said in a statement.

He added that based on investigations into the viral video, the suspects and the victim were all students at a secondary school here.

He also said the school's management had been informed of the incident as well.
