A 32-year-old pedestrian suffered a broken leg after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing Lebuh Chulia in George Town on Monday (Oct 5), as reported by Sinar Harian.
The accident happened at about 9.10pm, when the local man was struck by a motorcycle ridden by a 22-year-old man.
Timur Laut deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake said the rider was on his way from his workplace in Lebuh Chulia to Jalan Patani at the time.
"As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist suffered minor injuries while the pedestrian suffered serious injuries, namely a broken leg, and is still receiving treatment in hospital," said Supt Lee.
Members of the public helped the pedestrian before both men were taken to hospital for further treatment.
"Initial investigations found that the accident is believed to have been caused by the motorcyclist's negligence in handling his vehicle, resulting in him hitting the pedestrian who was crossing the road," said Supt Lee.
In a statement on Thursday (Oct 8), Supt Lee said police detected a 46-second video of the incident that went viral on WhatsApp that day, three days after the accident.
"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," said Supt Lee.
The section covers driving without due care and attention.
