AS OF late, Malaysia has been hit with more news of its citizens being held abroad for allegedly being involved with drug smuggling.
In a viral post on social media recently, it was claimed that yet another Malaysian citizen who happens to be a university student was arrested in Indonesia for smuggling drugs.
Is there any truth to this?
VERDICT:

FALSE
Police have dismissed social media claims that a Malaysian university student was arrested in Indonesia with 4kg of syabu, clarifying that the suspect is an Indonesian national.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said preliminary investigations found that Indonesian authorities had detained an Indonesian man at the Teluk Nibung Ferry Terminal in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra, last Saturday (Oct 10).
"The man was returning to Indonesia from Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, when he was stopped for inspection, which led to the discovery of eight plastic packages containing suspected methamphetamine weighing about 4kg.
"Further investigations found that the drugs had allegedly been handed over by another Indonesian man in the Klang Valley to be transported to Indonesia through the Tanjung Balai ferry terminal," he said in a statement.
Comm Hussein said claims circulating on social media that a Malaysian citizen and university student had been arrested in Indonesia for smuggling the drugs were false.
He warned that such misinformation could cause confusion and concern among the public.
"We will continue working with Indonesian authorities to obtain intelligence to identify the source of the drugs and dismantle the syndicate involved in the case.
He urged the public to verify information with the relevant authorities before sharing reports, particularly those involving drug-related offences.
He added that Information on drug activities can be channelled to the department's hotline at 012-208 7222.
