Zii Jia faces court hearing in family dispute

PETALING JAYA: Men's singles independent Lee Zii Jia will face a different kind of court challenge as he prepares for a lawsuit against his father, sister and brother.

Zii Jia, fresh from his best outing of the year after reaching the semi-finals of the Arctic Open in Finland, is understood to have returned home and is scheduled to appear before High Court judge Justice Leong Wai Hong on Nov 25.

In July, Zii Jia filed the suit against his father Lee Chee Hin and sister Lee Zii Yii, while his younger brother Lee Tao and LZJ Management were also named as respondents.

Lawyer Ahmad Zayd Ahmad Zuber of Messrs Faisal & Zayd, who is representing Zii Jia, said he is seeking an injunction to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of his company LZJ Management Sdn Bhd.

"Basically, it is just an application for us to hold an EGM for the company. That is all. There are no allegations being made between the parties. It is simply to allow a general meeting to take place.

"It is nothing too serious. It is just an application to maintain the status quo between the parties so that there are no changes and everything remains the same until the meeting," said Ahmad Zayd when contacted on Tuesday (Oct 13).

Zii Jia filed the originating summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 2.

He named his father Lee Chee Hin, sister Lee Zii Yii and younger brother Lee Tao as respondents.

In his originating summons, Zii Jia is seeking to prevent Chee Hin and Zii Yii, who are also directors of the company, from approving directors' fees, allowances, bonuses or other financial benefits for themselves apart from their respective monthly salaries.

He is also seeking to block any decision involving the appointment or removal of directors, the appointment of a company secretary, the disposal of major assets, the issuance of new shares and changes to the company's shareholding structure without the court's approval.

In his supporting affidavit, Zii Jia said the three were supposed to attend an EGM on Dec 22, 2025, but did not turn up despite being given notice of the meeting.

He claimed he had tried to personally contact them but did not receive their cooperation, leaving the meeting without the required quorum under the Companies Act 2016.

After the EGM could not proceed, Zii Jia explored several other avenues, including seeking assistance from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

However, Ahmad Zayd said he was unable to disclose the main purpose of the proposed EGM.

The injunction application is scheduled to be heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Nov 25.
