QuickCheck: Has a tiger been spotted near Fraser's Hill?

ONE would not expect a scenic drive up to Fraser's Hill to turn into a wildlife watch.

However, photos have gone viral on social media showing a tiger by the side of the road along the route.

Is there any truth to this?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) said it installed four camera traps after receiving reports of a Malayan tiger seen by the roadside along the Fraser's Hill route near Raub, heading towards Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor.

Pahang Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said they received information about the incident at around 9am on Friday (Oct 9).

"Four Perhilitan officers went to the location to conduct an investigation and install camera traps," he told Bernama.

He added that monitoring would continue to gather more information about the presence of the tiger.
