SEREMBAN: Police are investigating three reports of alleged vote-buying, says Negri Sembilan police chief Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
He said two reports were lodged here and another in Port Dickson on Tuesday (July 28).
He said a 69-year-old man in Sikamat lodged the first report claiming that a group of men gave him RM300 to vote for a particular candidate.
"The men allegedly gave him the money in an envelope and took a photograph of his identity card.
"He was then asked to vote for a particular candidate," he said.
DCP Alzafny said another 40-year-old complainant lodged a report after seeing a video of people queuing up at an event in Bukit Pelandok and allegedly given envelopes containing money.
"A third report was lodged by a 72-year-old man who a video on WhatsApp of a candidate for the Labu seat allegedly giving out cash," he said.
He said all three cases were being probed under Section 11 of the Election Offences Act 1954.
DCP Alzafny said a 72-year-old man in Tampin lodged a report for defamation after he saw a video of on social media claiming that policemen involved in the early voting process on Wednesday were given RM300 each to support a particular political party.
The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
He said police have received 89 reports related to election offences since nomination day on July 18 and opened 23 investigation papers.
DCP Alzafny said police also approved all 80 applications for permits for ceramah and related campaign received on Wednesday (July 29).
Since nomination day, police have approved 689 of the 715 applications received.
He said the police would monitor all programmes and activities to ensure these were held in compliance with the law.
