Negri cop remanded over RM3,000 bribe allegation

SEREMBAN: A policeman has been remanded for four days to assist in an investigation into allegations of soliciting and accepting a RM3,000 bribe from a married couple.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission obtained the remand order from the magistrate's court here on Saturday (Oct 31).

The suspect will remain in custody until Nov 3.

It is understood that the suspect, a man in his 30s, allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for dropping an investigation into a fight involving members of the couple's family.

The offence was allegedly committed on Oct 29 while the suspect was questioning the couple.

He was detained at about 10pm at a district police headquarters.

Negri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for soliciting or receiving gratification.
