MELAKA: Incumbent Kelebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong is preparing for a lively four-cornered contest as he seeks another term, with the seat set to see its first four-way fight since it was created in 2004.
"The constituency doesn't always see a lively contest, as previous elections had generally been two-way or three-way fights in the last two elections," he said.
He said he would work hard with his team to secure the support of voters and earn another mandate to continue serving the constituency.
"I hope voters and the people of Kelebang will once again give me their support and mandate to continue working and serving the community, while taking the constituency to a higher level," he said when met after completing the nomination process at Kompleks Japerun Klebang here on Saturday (Oct 31).
On his priorities for the constituency, Lim said he wanted to build on existing development efforts while creating more economic opportunities, particularly for young people.
He said access to employment, affordable housing and education, including technical and vocational education and training (TVET), would remain among the areas he wanted to focus on.
Lim said election campaigns also provided an opportunity for elected representatives and candidates to engage residents from all backgrounds, understand their concerns and gather feedback on ways to improve the constituency.
"Every election, we will work hard to gain the support of the local community. I see the election campaign as a platform for us to meet people regardless of their race or background and understand what is on their minds," he said.
Lim, who is also MCA vice-president and the party's Melaka state liaison chairman, said political parties and strategic partners sharing Barisan Nasional's vision of stability, prosperity and progress would combine their efforts to support the campaign.
He said their common goal was to work together towards the continued development and prosperity of the state.
Earlier, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and party deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon were present to show their support for Lim.
Dr Wee and Dr Mah accompanied Lim and his supporters to the entrance of the nomination centre before he proceeded to submit his nomination papers.
Lim is facing a four-cornered contest against Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir of PKR (Pakatan Harapan), Young Jie Yu of Bersama and Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad of Bersatu.
