KUALA LUMPUR: Eighteen Taiwanese nationals, including a woman, were detained following a raid on two condominium units over a suspected online phone scam operation.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Azwan Amin Nordin said the arrests were made at about 6.35pm on Oct 29 following intelligence gathered by the district police commercial crime investigation division.
He said those arrested comprised 17 men and a woman from Taiwan, aged between 19 and 43.
"We also seized 69 mobile phones, five laptops and two Hong Kong police uniforms during the raids.

"Based on the items seized, the syndicate is suspected of being involved in scams involving impersonation of Hong Kong police officers, targeting victims in Hong Kong," he said in a statement issued on Saturday (Oct 31).
He added that the group had allegedly been operating for about five months and used a Time internet connection to carry out its online activities.
All 18 suspects have been remanded for four days from Oct 30 to Nov 2 to facilitate investigations.
