PAS' Mata Ayer rep passes away at 50

KANGAR: PAS' Mata Ayer assemblyman Wan Badariah Wan Saad passed away at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah here at 4.26pm on Saturday (Oct 31). She was 50.

Her death was confirmed by PAS information chief Mohamad Zahid Ibrahim in the state party Facebook page.

"Let us all pray that the soul of the late departed may be blessed with divine mercy, that all her sins be forgiven, and that she be placed among the faithful and the righteous," he said.

Mohamad Zahid also expressed heartfelt condolences to her family.

Wan Badariah won the Mata Ayer seat in the 2022 general election.

She served as a state executive councillor under former Perlis mentri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli from November 2022 until December last year.

Her death leaves PAS with five assemblymen in the 15-seat Perlis state assembly, equal to the number held by Bersatu.

Four seats are now vacant, with the remaining seat held by PKR's Gan Ay Ling, who is the state Opposition leader.

The other three vacant seats are Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji, following the expulsion of their PAS assemblymen in December last year.

The three, Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji), were among eight Perikatan Nasional assemblymen who withdrew their support for then mentri besar Mohd Shukri.

Mohd Shukri resigned on Dec 25, citing health reasons, and Bersatu's Abu Bakar Hamzah was sworn in as his successor on Dec 28.

The five remaining PAS assemblymen are Mohd Shukri (Sanglang), Haziq Asyraf Dun (Beseri), Muhammad Azmir Azizan (Santan), Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil (Kayang) and Razali Saad (Simpang Empat).

Bersatu's five assemblymen are Abu Bakar (Kuala Perlis), state party chairman Izizam Ibrahim (Titi Tinggi), Marzita Mansor (Sena), Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh) and Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak (Tambun Tulang).
