PORT DICKSON: A police report has been lodged over alleged vote buying at a political campaign event in Chuah, Negri Sembilan.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the report was lodged at the Bukit Pelanduk police station in Port Dickson on Wednesday (July 29) morning.
"We have video evidence and lodged a police report in Chuah this morning," Chong said when contacted.
"I urge the authorities, the police and the Election Commission to take immediate action," he added.
Chong claimed similar vote-buying activities were rampant in other constituencies, adding that MCA possesses video recordings of additional instances.
He urged local residents to vote according to their conscience.
"If you allow vote buying, the country is finished, but I believe Malaysians are wise enough to vote accordingly," Chong said.
Election Commission deputy chairman Dr Azmi Sharom urged anyone witnessing vote buying or corruption to report the matter directly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to a copy of the police report, the incident occurred in Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson.
A viral video on social media shows an individual photographing voters' identity cards as they queued, while brown envelopes containing cash, believed to total RM300 each, were distributed.
The police report was lodged by Port Dickson MCA Youth chief Lim See Soon on Wednesday morning, accompanied by MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon.
"We saw money placed in envelopes and distributed to voters, so we lodged a report requesting the Election Commission to investigate," Ling said.
Chuah is involved in a straight contest between Pakatan Harapan candidate Yew Boon Lye and Barisan Nasional candidate Pau Jeou Ching.
When contacted, Yew said he was en route to lodge a police report and would convene a press conference later.
