Global Sumud flotilla: Lawyers from 45 countries on standby to assist those detained

IPOH: A team of lawyers from 45 countries are on standby to assist members of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which had been detained by the Israeli naval forces.

Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) director-general Datuk Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said matters related to the Malaysian delegates would be handled by Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (Centhra) chief executive officer Azril Mohd Amin.

"Malaysia's legal team will be led by Centhra's Azril, who is already in Amman, Jordan, to coordinate legal matters related to the Malaysian delegates.

"The GSF will cooperate and appoint The Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (Adalah) as its official representative, especially for the Malaysian delegates, when facing interrogation and detention," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 2).

Sani Araby said 201 of the 497 members of the GSF are being detained on their ships by the Israeli regime.

He said 14 ships from the GSF have been intercepted at about 10.44am Malaysia time.

These included the Sirius, Alma, Huga, Grande Blu and Hio, where 12 Malaysians were on board.

The other vessels included the Adara, Spectre, Deir Yassin Mali, Yulara, Aurora, Otaria, Morgana, Seulle and Mohammad Bhar.

Sirius:

1. Muhammad Haikal Abdullah

2. Muhammad Muaz Zainal Abiddin

3. Mohammad Zulfadhli Khiruddin

4. Mohd Rusydi Ramli

Alma:

1. Ahmad Musa Alnuwayri Kamaruzaman

2. Ilylia Balqis Suhaimi

3. Sul Aidil Sudi

Huga:

1. Nur Fazeiah Mad Tahil (Zizi Kirana)

Grande Blu:

1. Danish Nazran Murad

2. Nurfarahin Romli (Farah Lee)

Hio:

Sani Araby said the first act of intimidation was directed at Alma and Sirius at 1.20am Malaysia time.

"The act of intimidation was conducted in international waters, about 80 nautical miles from Gaza.

"The SNCC confirms that there were some provocations from the Israeli regime by using water cannons, as well as disrupting and blocking all communications access, including CCTV and radio broadcast," he said, adding that there were 10 Israeli navy ships.

"The Israeli regime had ordered ships to change their direction away from Gaza via radio to an unverified location.

"There were no gunshots heard and no delegates from Malaysia were tortured," he added.

He said two Malaysians, Nurul Hidayah Mohd Amin and Razli Awang, on board the Mikeno and Inana, could not be contacted since the attack.

"There are nine other Malaysians on board the Free Willy (Muhd Haikal Luqman Zulkefli, Muhammad Hareez Adzrami and Taufiq Mohd Razif), Fair Lady (Muhammad Abdullah and Zainal Rashidi Ahmad) and Estrella (Rahmat Ikhsan Mohd Sofyan, Norhelmi Ab Ghani, Norazman Ishak and Mohd Asmawi Mukhtar), which had not been intercepted, are continuing their journey to Gaza," he added.

Sani Araby said the SNCC would hold press conferences daily at 10am, 3pm and 9pm.

He said the SNCC would be where verified information can be obtained.

"Any unverified information would only benefit the propaganda by the Zionist regime and create a false narrative," he added.
