Mosques to hold special prayers for detained flotilla members

IPOH: All mosques and suraus nationwide have been called on to perform solat hajat and Qunut Nazilah on Thursday (Oct 2) and Friday (Oct 3) for members of the Global Sumud Flotilla detained by Israeli naval forces.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said the prayers will be held by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department after Maghrib on Thursday and after Friday prayers.

“All mosques and suraus in the Federal Territories will also deliver a special Friday sermon related to the issue in Palestine,” he said.

“I recommend that all mosques and suraus under the respective state religious departments do the same,” added Mohd Naim.

“Let us pray for the safety and protection of the flotilla team, especially the Malaysians involved, as well as the well-being of the Palestinians,” he said.

Qunut Nazilah is a special prayer recited for those facing calamity, disaster or great hardship.

Several GSF vessels on a humanitarian mission to Palestine were intercepted by Israeli naval forces at about 8.30pm Gaza time.

Eight Malaysians were part of the mission, including Zizi Kirana, Iylia Baliqis Suhaimi, Sul Aidil Sudi, Ahmad Musa Alnuwayri Kamaruzaman, Mohd Rusydi Ramli, Mohammad Zulfadhli Khiruddin, Muhammad Haikal Abdullah and Muhammad Muaz Zain Al Abiddin.
