PETALING JAYA: A group of 16 Malaysian tourists in the vicinity of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, on Saturday (Aug 15) at 4.58am local time, have been confirmed safe and in good health.
The Foreign Ministry said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta had successfully established contact with the group following the earthquake, which struck near Nagekeo Regency.
"The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta is actively coordinating with the relevant local authorities to ascertain the safety and well-being of the Malaysian community in the affected areas.
"At this stage, the ministry can confirm that there have been no reports of Malaysians affected by this incident.

"Furthermore, the embassy has successfully established contact with a group of 16 Malaysian tourists known to be in the vicinity, all of whom have been confirmed to be safe and in good health," it said in an advisory on Saturday.
The ministry advised Malaysians residing in or travelling to affected areas to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety and strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Malaysians are also urged to register and keep their contact details updated through the e-Konsular portal to facilitate communication and consular assistance.
