PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that he demands
the immediate release of Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers, including several Malaysians detained by Israeli forces early on Thursday (Oct 2).
“Free them immediately. Do not act cruelly and unjustly towards Malaysian and international activists and volunteers,” he added.
Anwar said he received information from Malaysian activists and volunteers following the interception of the flotilla by the Israeli regime.
“I urge the immediate release of all Malaysian and international activists and volunteers. This is a humanitarian mission carrying unarmed civilians and much-needed aid for the people of Gaza,” added Anwar.
He said the government will do its utmost to secure the release of Malaysians currently in detention.
Anwar said that by obstructing the mission, Israel is disregarding the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people and trampling on the conscience of the global community.
“This flotilla is not merely an aid convoy but a symbol of unity, solidarity and compassion. It brings hope to ease the suffering of those forced to live under a cruel blockade,” he added.
He said Malaysia will take all lawful measures to hold Israel accountable, especially when Malaysian citizens are involved.
Anwar added that the safety of Malaysians is a top priority and the government will not remain silent when their rights and dignity are violated.
At least 12 Malaysians on various vessels en route to Gaza were detained after interception by Israeli naval forces.
The 12 include singer Zizi Kirana, whose real name is Nur Fazelah Mad Tahil, Musa Nuwayri, Iylia Balqis Suhaimi, Sul Aidil, Haikal Abdullah, Muaz Zainal, Zulfadhli Khairudin, Rusydi Ramli, sisters Heliza and Hazwani Helmi, humanitarian activist Nurfarahin Romli, also known as Farah Lee, and Danish Nazram.
GSF is a 44-vessel mission carrying humanitarian supplies and international activists to assist the people of Gaza.
The mission left Spain last month, aiming to break Israel’s blockade of the Palestinian territory, where the United Nations says famine has set in.
