Sabahans unite in support of Malaysians detained after flotilla interception

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans are urged to unite in solidarity with those detained by Israeli forces after the Global Sumud Flotilla vessels they were on were intercepted in Gaza waters.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said those detained include Sabahans Zizi Kirana and Sul Aidil.

“The state government is very concerned about their detention. Their humanitarian mission to Gaza is something we are very proud of,” he added on Thursday (Oct 2).

“We are confident that the Prime Minister and the Foreign Affairs Minister will take the best diplomatic steps to assist in the release of these Malaysians,” said Hajiji.

He urged all Sabahans, regardless of race, religion or background, to stand in solidarity with the detainees.

“Our prayers accompany efforts to secure their release and that of others who went on humanitarian grounds,” he added.

The Sumud Nusantara Command Centre confirmed the detention of eight Malaysians.

As of 6am Malaysian time, eight Malaysians, including singer Zizi Kirana, whose real name is Nur Fazelah Mad Tahil, on board the vessel Huga, were confirmed detained by Israeli forces.

Before contact was lost, activists on board shared live streams showing tense scenes as Israeli forces surrounded and attempted to disable the aid convoy en route to the Gaza coast.

There are no reports of injuries so far, but the Global Sumud Flotilla delegation said it remains committed to continuing the mission despite the actions of Israeli forces.
