Parliament condemns Global Sumud Flotilla interception by Israel

PETALING JAYA: The interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli military forces is unwarranted force and intimidation, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

In a statement on Thursday (Oct 2), he said that the detention of eight Malaysian citizens who joined this mission in good faith is deeply troubling.

“Their commitment to stand with the oppressed must be respected, not criminalised. Such actions by Israel represent not only an affront to international law but also a moral outrage against the global conscience,” said Johari.

“We stand in solidarity with our fellow Malaysians and with all who joined this mission of compassion. We pray for their immediate safety, their swift release, and for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza where it is desperately needed,” he added.

Johari then said that the flotilla’s sole purpose is to bring life-saving supplies to a besieged population and added that it is now confronted with unwarranted force and intimidation.

“I vehemently condemn the Israeli interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian-led humanitarian mission carrying essential aid for the people of Gaza as well as hundreds of representatives from at least 44 countries,” said Johari.

“The Parliament of Malaysia reaffirms its unwavering support for the people of Palestine and will continue to press for accountability, justice, and the protection of innocent lives,” he added.
