PKR National Congress: Anwar promises immediate probe into Tabung Haji misappropriation

AYER KEROH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied any cabinet pushback regarding the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), stating that ministers unanimously supported making the findings public.

“Not one person objected to the decision,” Anwar said during his opening speech at the PKR National Congress on Saturday (Aug 15).

He revealed that cabinet members in fact urged for investigations to continue, reiterating his firm stance against financial malfeasance.

“I want to repeat here in Melaka, 'memang ada sakau' (there was indeed misappropriation),” he told delegates. “RM12bil went missing, and that is not misappropriation?”

Anwar stated that firm action will be taken immediately against those found responsible for the missing funds, confirming that enforcement agencies, including the police, will launch formal investigations.

He added that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had also decreed that the alleged RM12bil misappropriation must be fully exposed and investigated.

Addressing opposition critics, Anwar slammed those who chose to boycott parliamentary proceedings rather than engage with the report's findings.

“The decision to disclose the RCI report on TH was made by the Cabinet, yet there are parties who are afraid to debate it openly. Instead, they walked out of Parliament on the basis that the Prime Minister was undergoing an operation,” he said.

The RCI report on Tabung Haji was tabled on July 29 and subsequently debated in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 11).
