Thunderstorm warning issued for seven states as well as Federal Territories


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across several regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 9pm on Sunday (April 13), said the Malaysian Meteorological Department in a post on its Facebook page.

In Pahang, the areas of Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, and Bera are on alert.

In Selangor, as well as WP Kuala Lumpur and WP Putrajaya, severe weather is anticipated.

In Negeri Sembilan, districts including Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, and Rembau are under the warning.

The warning was also extended to Melaka.

In Johor, areas such as Tangkak, Muar, and Kota Tinggi are forecasted to be affected.

In Sarawak, regions including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Matu, Dalat, and Mukah), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang are expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Sabah, the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, and Keningau) and West Coast (Papar) are also under the thunderstorm warning, as well as WP Labuan.

This warning is issued when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
