Putra Heights inferno: Technical agencies working round the clock to stabilise soil, say cops

SUBANG JAYA: Works to stabilise the soil at the Putra Heights gas explosion site here are being expedited including a 24-hour operation by the technical agencies involved, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The Selangor police chief said that the works would be done continuously, involving additional machinery to stabilise the site and expose the gas pipes.

“We are still in the process of stabilising the soil here in order to expose the gas pipes involved in the explosion and fire.

“To expedite the process, we have added more machinery and will operate around the clock,” he told reporters at the incident area here on Tuesday (April 8).

He added that the agencies involved were the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) and PETRONAS.

Comm Hussein also said that with the latest moves, it was expected that the initial investigation can conclude ahead of its targeted date which was within two weeks.

However, he pointed out that the progress would still depend on the weather and soil conditions in the area.

“It was set to take a few days but the soil condition is still damp and the process depends on the weather as well,” he said, adding that the process to stabilise the soil has reached about 30%.

“We are also working on the soil grading process and preparing for the machinery to enter the site for shift piling,” he added.
