Full report on Putra Heights blast to be released soon, says Selangor MB

THE full report on the Putra Heights gas pipe explosion will be made public as soon as possible, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says.

He said the state government had no issue disclosing the report, but several matters involving federal agencies and legal proceedings had to be considered first.

“I am still waiting for the final report because some parts involve federal agencies.

“As for the state, we can disclose it anytime.

"I have no problem with that and we will ask for it to be disclosed,” he told reporters after the launch of the waste-to-energy facility in Jeram.

Amirudin said several parties had also initiated legal action over the incident, which could affect the release of certain documents.

“The state’s stand is simple. From day one, I wanted the full report to be disclosed.

“It was prepared by an independent committee, together with a group of independent investigators.

“The committee also went down to the ground to verify the matter and the report has been completed,” he said.

However, Amirudin said the report contained many technical terms and elements that would have to be reviewed before being released to the public.

He said Selangor government has no objection to the disclosure, but permission was needed from federal entities as some aspects were not fully under the state’s jurisdiction.

“The effects and other related matters will also need to be assessed by the Federal Government and the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said.

The independent committee comprised eight professionals with expertise in slopes and oil and gas matters.

The explosion on April 1 last year destroyed 87 houses and damaged 148 properties, affecting more than 1,250 people in 308 families.
