High-Achieving Penang youths who have excelled in national and international competitions are invited to apply for the annual Penang Young Talent Excellence Incentive Scheme.
State youth committee chairman Daniel Gooi said the scheme, now in its fifth year, was open to those aged between 15 and 30, who have won in various co-curricular activities in Penang between Sept 1, 2025 and Sept 15 this year.
He said the state government initiative, under the Penang Youth Development Corporation, aimed to encourage and recognise youths who brought pride to the state through academic, sports and co-curricular achievements.
“The scheme is not just an incentive, but a token of appreciation and support from the state government for young people who have demonstrated excellence on national and international stages.
“We urge parents, teachers, coaches, schools, educational institutions, associations and relevant organisations to help eligible individuals register,” he said during a press conference at Komtar in George Town, Penang.
Gooi said applicants must be Malaysian citizens who reside in Penang or registered voters in the state, having placed first, second or third place in qualifying events.
“For the national category, the competition must have participants from at least five states.
“For the international category, there must have been a minimum of three participating countries.”
Gooi said applications could be submitted by individuals or teams.
He said the incentives ranged from RM300 to RM800 for individual category winners, and RM500 to RM3,000 for teams.
The scheme awarded over RM328,000 to 1,107 recipients between 2022 and 2024, he said.
“The state government views the talents and achievements of young Penangites as important assets to the state’s future.
“Every achievement deserves recognition, whether in the academic or co-curricular fields.
“Participation in national and international competitions and tournaments brings pride to individuals and their families while enhancing Penang’s reputation.
“This scheme was introduced as recognition and encouragement for youth to continue challenging themselves, developing their talents and striving for excellence,” he added.
Applications close on Sept 30. To apply, visit shorturl.at/lGSE7.
