SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) plans to increase the number of parking bays in its administrative area by a minimum of 2% each year.
This will see an addition of around 1,000 lots annually.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin (pic) said a review on the percentage of increase would be carried out every two years.
Additional bays are expected to come from commercial areas within new developments, he said, assuring that this would not affect parking charges and that users would not see an increase in parking rates.
He said MBSJ currently has 53,000 bays under its purview, generating revenue of about RM9.2mil a year.
Rumaizi said MBSJ had also proposed that the annual revenue target be set with a minimum increase of 2% from the previous year’s target.
“If new parking areas are added during the year, the additional revenue from the new parking bays should be calculated separately and added to the target after the 2% increase, based on MBSJ’s records and calculations,” he said during MBSJ’s full board meeting.
Rumaizi also said the appointed concession company Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MBI Selangor, must ensure that payments based on actual collections for the current year exceeded the prescribed minimum threshold.
MBSJ, he said, was also considering privatisation of several projects to support smart city development and generate additional revenue.
“The proposed initiatives include electric vehicle charging bases (EVCB), communication hardware and data connectivity, billboards and solar-energy systems to support renewable-energy use.”
A committee would be set up to oversee the projects and their establishment would not involve direct capital expenditure, as management costs would be funded through the city council’s existing allocation, he said.
The committee will determine policy and direction, evaluate and approve privatisation proposals and joint-venture terms, approve company appointments and coordinate reports from three subcommittees.
Rumaizi said the committee would also be responsible for ensuring the appointed companies channel 6% of their monthly profits to Perbandanan Wakaf Selangor through MBSJ, which has also become the first local authority in Selangor to be appointed as a cash-waqaf collection agent.
In the update on dengue, MBSJ Health Department has recorded 3,877 cumulative cases of dengue fever for epidemiological week 42.
Four new hotspots have been identified: Jalan Teratai in Taman Puchong Perdana; a few blocks in Kota Perdana KP4 (Mawar Jaya); PJS 9/1 in Lagoon Perdana; and the shophouse area and several blocks in Taman Puchong Utama 7 (Court 1).
A total of 84 notices were issued for those areas, of which 48 were for larvae breeding grounds and 36 ordering a cleanup of potential breeding areas.
Rumaizi urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and carry out regular inspections inside and outside their homes.
“Residents experiencing symptoms such as sudden fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, skin rashes, nausea or vomiting are advised to seek medical attention immediately,” he said.
