Selangor’s stamp museum, featuring a design inspired by a stamped envelope, is scheduled to open in early 2028.

State housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the museum was an effort to establish a premier philatelic reference institution.

The RM7.36mil project in Section 14, Shah Alam, is supervised by Public Works Department (JKR) and has entered the interior design and exhibit curation phase.

“Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat) has been tasked with developing interior exhibits, including conducting a series of storyline workshops with Philatelic Society of Malaysia.

“Completion of this building reflects the state’s support and commitment towards strengthening museum institutions and preserving Selangor’s heritage,” Borhan said at the project handover in Shah Alam, as reported by Bernama.

The symbolic handover by Selangor JKR director Shukri Ishak to Padat chief executive officer Aslynda Mohd Dahlan was witnessed by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Also present were deputy state secretary (development) Datuk Johary Anuar and deputy state secretary (management) Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

Borhan said five shortlisted names for the museum, along with its official logo design, had been presented to Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for royal consent.

Borhan conveyed appreciation to Selangor JKR as the implementing agency, consultants, contractors and all participating departments and agencies who ensured the project’s completion despite delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed hope that the museum would raise awareness about philately.
