MetMalaysia warns of bad weather in several states until 9pm, issues advisory for Tropical Storm Narra


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Tropical Storm Advisory for Tropical Storm Narra, which is moving east at a speed of 19 km/h, approximately 1,630 km northeast of Tumpat, Kelantan.

MetMalaysia said the storm recorded a maximum wind speed of 65 km/h, but had not significantly affected Malaysia so far.

According to the department, the tropical storm's location as of 5pm on Tuesday (Aug 25) was at latitude 19.5 North and longitude 108.5 East, about 47 km north of Basuo, China.

Meanwhile, a thunderstorm warning was issued for several states in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, until 9pm on Tuesday.

The department said the thunderstorm warning covers the entire state of Kelantan and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

In Perak, the affected areas are Larut, Matang dan Selama, Kerian, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim; while in Terengganu, the warning covered Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu.

Other areas expected to be affected were Pahang (Bentong, Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Raub, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin); Selangor (Hulu Selangor); and Johor (Muar, Segamat, Johor Bahru, Mersing and Kota Tinggi).

In Sarawak, the warning was issued for Miri (Telang Usan and Bario), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh), Kapit, Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Sri Aman, Samarahan (Simunjan, Sebuyau and Gedong) and Serian (Serian).

In Sabah, the areas expected to be affected included the Interior, Sandakan (Tongod, Sandakan, Labuk & Sugut and Telupid) and the West Coast. – Bernama
