PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded the statements of 36 people over its investigations into the corruption and money laundering case involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to sources, MACC recorded statements from 32 witnesses and four suspects.
"A total of 23 new witnesses have yet to provide their statements, while four others are now giving their statements.
"As for the status of bank documents, an application has already been made and the banks are preparing them for submission to the MACC," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday (March 10).
On March 2, MACC said it had seized approximately RM170mil cash in foreign currency AND 16kg of gold worth almost RM7mil in its investigation.
The search operation was carried out at a house and three other premises used as safe houses following the arrest of four senior officers who served under the former prime minister's administration.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the MACC started its investigation in early 2024 into the "Keluarga Malaysia" issue involving RM700mil in advertising and promotion funds for government agendas.
So far, 13 bank accounts with a total of RM2mil in funds have been frozen.
Most belong to the four suspects arrested but Ismail Sabri's account has not been frozen yet as it is under investigation.
