Woman killed by falling pole after driver crashes into Cheras food court

KAJANG: An attempt to stop an errant driver ended in tragedy when a 47-year-old woman was killed by a falling pole at a food court in Bandar Mahkota, Cheras.

The victim was killed instantly after being struck on the head when the car hit the pole during an attempt to flee the scene on Thursday (Aug 22).

According to Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof, the ordeal began when a 35-year-old male driver accidentally pressed his accelerator pedal, crashing straight into the food court’s dining area.

"As the driver tried to leave the premises, the victim ran toward the car to block its path. However, the vehicle hit a nearby pole, causing it to topple directly onto her," ACP Naazron said on Saturday (Aug 22).

Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene due to fatal head injuries.

The driver was arrested and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Police confirmed he has no previous criminal records.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
