GOF seizes illicit cigs worth over RM300,000 in Kuala Langat


PETALING JAYA: A total of 805 cartons of various brands of suspected contraband cigarettes were seized during Ops Taring Alpha 1 at a premises in Kampung Sungai Rambai, Jenjarom, Kuala Langat, on Friday (Aug 21).

During the operation at about 6.30pm, a team from the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 4 intelligence branch in Semenyih, assisted by the Kuala Langat district Criminal Investigation Division, also arrested a local man believed to be the premises' caretaker.

GOF Battalion 4 commanding officer Supt Amanjit Singh said police also seized a mobile phone believed to have been used to arrange distribution of the contraband cigarettes.

"The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM304,893.50," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 23).

He said the suspect and seized items were taken to the Kuala Langat district police headquarters for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967.

Supt Amanjit also urged the public to cooperate with police and provide information on any unlawful activities.
